NORMA Group and Frankfurt School of Finance & Management honor theses on “Industrie 4.0”

Maintal, Germany, November 7, 2017 – NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, is sponsoring the prize money for the Manufacturing Management Award from Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (“Frankfurt School”) for the fourth year in a row. The prize money in the amounts of 1,500, 1,000 and 500 euros went to three graduates who examined the potentials and effects of “Industrie 4.0”, an initiative launched by the German government to promote the industrial internet of things. The so-called fourth industrial revolution brings changes such as the individualization of products or the integration of customers and business partners into business processes. The Frankfurt School presents the prize for the three best theses that focus on production management from the Master in Management (MSc) program.

Martin Samitz came in first place for his empirical analysis on Industrie 4.0 based on the example of the manufacturing industry in Austria. Second place winner Giulia Vignotti dealt with the question of what potential Industrie 4.0 holds for small and medium-sized production companies in Italy, Germany and Austria. Kim Knors, who finished third, examined the effects of Industrie 4.0 on the continuous learning of employees in the manufacturing divisions of a pharmaceutical and agricultural corporation.

John Stephenson, COO of NORMA Group, honored the prize-winners at the award ceremony held in Frankfurt/Main on November 3, 2017. “The graduates have shown exciting potentials for industrial companies on the way to Industrie 4.0 in their theses. Some of them will be able to pursue the implementation of these potentials in the future, also in their professional practice. I wish them great success.”

I am pleased with our graduates on this special recognition and would like to thank NORMA Group for its many years of support and commitment to this prize. It is an incentive for our students to grow beyond themselves in their final theses,” said Professor Dr. Udo Steffens, President of Frankfurt School, at the award ceremony held in Paulskirche.

NORMA Group has been financing the Manufacturing Award from the Frankfurt School and supporting the assistant professorship for the production industry since 2014. Cooperation with the business school started in 2012. Since then, NORMA Group has been using the business school’s curriculum for the development and further education of its managers. Furthermore, the company regularly assists students with their master's theses, offers internships and, together with the Frankfurt School, carries out educational programs in the area of project management.
