Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day at NORMA Group: schoolchildren learn about training opportunities

Maintal, Germany, 28 April 2016 – NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, welcomed a group of pupils to its plant in Maintal today. As part of “Girls’ Day” and “Boys’ Day,” five girls and one boy learned more about the various apprenticeship and dual degree programs that NORMA Group offers at its Maintal site.

We are now participating in this activity day for the eighth time because, as a fast-growing company, we depend on well-trained skilled workers,” said Pierre Bassetti, Managing Director of NORMA Germany GmbH. “We have been training people here in Maintal for 50 years. In fact, we even have our own training workshop since 1980. The goal is to have the pupils decide on an apprenticeship career or a work-study program based on their individual interests. We are convinced that mixed teams often come up with the best ideas."

The adolescents learned more about the various training opportunities at NORMA Group while taking a tour of the plant and manufacturing their own workpieces in the training workshop. Besides apprenticeships such as mechatronics, machine and plant operators, industrial mechanics, process mechanics on plastics and rubber technology, toolmakers, warehouse logistics specialists and industrial business management assistants, NORMA Group also offers dual study programs. In cooperation with the Berufsakademie Frankfurt and the University of Applied Sciences Mittelhessen, the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and the Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering can be earned.

In an agreement recently concluded for NORMA Germany GmbH and NORMA Group Holding GmbH, not only secure employment at the site in Maintal through the end of 2020 was put in writing, but also the hiring of at least ten apprentices per year. NORMA Group will offer all those who successfully complete their training and receive at least the grade “satisfactory” permanent positions.

Girls’ Day and Boys’ Day are Germany-wide initiatives that are supported by various federal ministries. Through visits to companies that train, girls learn more about professions that are predominately chosen by men, such as technical and scientific jobs. In reverse, boys can gain insights into professions in which women prevail, such as in the caring and social industries.
