Girls’ Day: NORMA Group inspired 16 girls for technical careers

Maintal, Germany, April 26, 2018 – NORMA Group today offered 16 schoolgirls the opportunity to test their talent for technical and commercial careers. For Girls’ Day, celebrated across Germany, schoolgirls learned about diverse apprenticeships and dual study courses that NORMA Group offers at its Maintal site.

The girls, between 11 and 16 years old, visited production facilities for plastic connectors and metal clamps. They produced their own workpiece in the company’s own training workshop. Among the participants were four girls who fled from Afghanistan and Yemen with their parents and now live in Maintal.

As one of the largest employers in the Main-Kinzig region, we are committed to promoting young talent,” said Monika Jestädt, Head of Human Resources at NORMA Germany. “Talented youth is a perfect fit for NORMA Group, regardless of gender or background.”

Mayor of Maintal Monika Böttcher was also impressed by the participants’ interest. “I am delighted that the girls were able to get a taste of the action at NORMA Group themselves on Girls’ Day and get hands-on experience in the workshop,” she said. “Girls’ Day opens up new prospects for girls and might even inspire them to take up technical professions.”

NORMA Group currently employs 32 apprentices at its three German locations in Maintal, Gerbershausen and Marsberg. Each year, the company hires at least ten apprentices. Successful graduation with a satisfactory grade (“Drei” or better) guarantees that an apprentice will be taken on as a permanent employee.

Youth can apply to NORMA Group for apprenticeships as mechatronics technicians, machine and plant operators, industrial mechanics, process mechanics for plastics and rubber technology, tool mechanics, specialist for warehouse logistics and industrial clerks. In cooperation with the TH Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences, the company also offers dual study courses in business administration, mechanical engineering and industrial engineering.

Girls’ Day is a nationwide campaign for vocational orientation sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Education. The day provides a platform for girls to find out about careers in technology, crafts, IT and the natural sciences in training companies and at universities in which women are traditionally underrepresented. The city of Maintal and NORMA Group have supported this campaign for many years.
