NORMA Group improves water supply and sanitary conditions at Indian schools

Maintal/Germany, Talegaon/India, 22 March 2016 – NORMA Group, a global market leader for engineered joining technology, is making progress on implementing its development aid project ”NORMA Clean Water” launched in 2014 and aimed at improving the water supply and sanitary conditions in 50 schools in Greater Pune in the Indian state of Maharashtra. On the occasion of World Water Day 2016, children's clubs of all project schools gathered for a drawing competition aimed at raising awareness of hygiene and conserving water.

We have achieved important milestones since the start of the project. For instance, we were able to bring the importance of clean water and hygiene closer to the kids at almost all of the schools,” said Werner Deggim, CEO of NORMA Group. “We are very pleased with the progress we are making. After all, today's World Water Day reminds us of how important access to the valuable resource water is for all of us. With its diverse product solutions for water management, NORMA Group supports the global trend towards an efficient and sustainable water usage.”

Within the NORMA Clean Water project, educational children's clubs have been founded at 46 of the 50 schools involved in the project. At regular club meetings, the students check the status of sanitation and cleanliness in their schools. Days of Action on washing hands, essay competitions and theater performances have helped students understand their responsibility for the environment and their usage of water. Furthermore, electric incinerators have been installed at 11 educational institutions that now allow for hygiene products to be disposed of safely.

NORMA Clean Water will benefit a total of 15,000 pupils and teachers through 2017. The project is conducted in cooperation with the child aid organization Plan International. Besides educational initiatives, essential renovations on washrooms and water lines are carried out to improve the learning and working conditions for the children and teachers in the long term.

NORMA Group makes its achievements and the progress it is making in the area of Corporate Responsibility transparent on its website
